Born Again

One must understand being a Christian means you have to be born again. If you are unhappy and struggling, yet saying you are a Christian, maybe you need to die to your own desires so you can live.

“Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’” (John 3:7)

To be a Christian you must be born again. You must die to your desires of the flesh.

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

After a person picks up a cross, it is expected that they will not come back. When we are born again, it should not be us that comes back, but Christ.

“And he said to all, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil. 1:21)

When you become a Christian, it is not about your desires; it is about life in Christ. It is a painful death to let your desires go and to put on the new man.

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness”” (Eph. 4:22-24)

If we are putting on the “new man,” we are putting on the image of God. What does that image look like? What does God look like?

God is holy, righteous and just. Jesus said “Not My will, but Yours be done.” The “yours” He was talking about the will of God the Father. The will of God is that we obey Him.

It is not about your desires. It is not about what you want. It is about that which is holy and righteous. Those who say, “I can continue to live this way,” do not understand what it is to be born again. Are you going to be perfect after you are born again? No, but you will not be all about the desires of your flesh or at least you will be fighting them. Do you say you are a Christian? Are you fighting against your flesh or are you enjoying the pleasures of the day?

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” (Gal. 5:16-25)

As Christians we are to die to our own desires. We are now “ambassadors for Christ as if God was making an appeal through us.” We are to “Go Preach the Gospel.” We are to strive to be mature in Christ and “show ourselves approved.” We are to “Go make disciples” because we “are fishers of men!”

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Col. 3:17)
