Be Yourself in Ministry

  • A Changed Life

Jen got a Call from a student at SRU.  She got to hear a story of a female SRU student that she had talked to a few times.  The young lady had heard the gospel while talking to Jen on campus.  She realized the evil in her homosexual relationship.  She repented and placed her trust in Jesus.  She started going to a good church during the summer.  She decided to go to a different college this year, so she would not be tempted by the LGBTQ culture at SRU.  We are so grateful to God.   Please pray for her.

The First week in August I spent in NYC.  We had 2 days of training for the Campus Leaders and then several days of outreach.  We did many interesting outreaches on the subways.  We had several sinners anonymous meetings.   One gentlemen comes into the subway car thanking everyone for coming to the meeting.  He asks for people to give their testimony and then when no one does he gives his own.  Then he pleads with people again to stand up and give their testimony.  After a third plea one of us stands up and gives our testimony.  Here is a picture of me giving my testimony of coming to Christ.  Then two others stand up and give their testimony.  As you can see by the young lady here everyone is listening and surprised.    In the one location we did this others had almost been arrested for preaching the gospel a few days earlier and we had the same guards tell the complainers to sit and be quiet so that they could see all that would happen.    A little creativity can go a long way for finding a way to share the gospel.  Many people heard the gospel.

The parks in NYC are a wonderful place to witness.  People go to the parks to interact with others.  We had many wonderful conversations.   These two had many questions and ended up talking to several Christians about Jesus.  Pray that God is changing their hearts.

Hundreds of people heard the gospel via open air evangelism in the parks.  God drew several large crowds to hear the gospel throughout the week.  Some crowds gather because of apologetics like here.

We gathered crowds using IQ tests and trivia as well.  Either way everyone heard a good gospel message.  What a wonderful week we had in NYC.

Be Yourself in Ministry

Be yourself in ministry.  We live in a social media of likes and shares.  We need to not be worrying about those likes and shares and we need to be about God.  Let your ministry be an outpouring of your love for Jesus.  Your teaching and your outreach should just be an extension of who you are.

Dig deep in the word and pour your heart out to Jesus.  Who do you have a heart for?  What people do you have a heart for?  Pray for those people and decide the best way to share the gospel with those people.  Then go out and share the gospel with them.  If that way does not work then try another way.  Give people the gospel and love on people, give tracts to people, have Bible studies.

Should you open air evangelize?  Should you hand out tracts? Should you go to a homeless shelter and give the gospel to people while they are eating?  Should you go to the mall and witness to people at the mall?

God has given us compassion for specific people.  God has given me a love for college students, that they would be saved.  I try different things every year to try and get them to listen.  I pray my methods  reach the lost.  I know that only God can save them by turning their hearts and minds.  When I witness it is done in love with patience and teaching but I will keep trying to reach the lost.

I had a love for the students at the University of Pittsburgh.  I went and tried to do as many 1-2-1's with the students for a long time.  Then I worried that I was not witnessing to enough of them, so I had a period that I just handed out thousands of tracts.  I had a period that people were not taking the tracts so I open air evangelized.

I realized that I wanted to have a Bible study that I could invite people I had witnessed to.  I wanted to train up the college students to talk to the students around them about their need for Jesus.  That is why I am at CCN.  I have a love for the college students and I try all that I can to teach them about their need for Jesus and explain what Jesus did for them.  I want them to know that they need to repent and what repentance looks like.  I go onto the campus and plead with them to trust Jesus and the Bible and repent.

I pray that your focus is not what others think, nor what others think you should or should not do but, giving the Glory to God.  Dig deep in the word and go tell those God has given you a heart for about Jesus.
