The Goal is the Gospel

The Goal is the Gospel

When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Denominational barriers don’t matter.
When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Incoming funds don’t matter.
When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Spiritual gifts don’t matter.
When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Statistics don’t matter.
When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Nothing else matters!

When the goal is the Gospel…
It doesn’t matter if you have hymns or contemporary music.
When the goal is the Gospel…
It doesn’t matter if you’re an Arminianist or Calvinist.
When the goal is the Gospel…
It doesn’t matter if you believe in pre-trib or post-trib.
When the goal is the Gospel…
It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting in chairs or pews.
When the goal is the Gospel…
                        Nothing else matters!

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we have a problem. We focus on so many issues that divide the body of Christ, while neglecting the most important issue. I was guilty of this too and needed to seek God and repent of my sin. Our goal as Christians should be the same as Jesus, “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10, ESV). Why do we get so caught up in secondary matters, minor issues, and things that won’t matter in Heaven?

When we focus our attention to the fact that people are heading for an eternity in Hell, nothing else seems to matter. If you were in a burning building and you saw firefighters outside debating on different methods of storing hoses, you would be in shock! You would think, “Who cares about that right now? I’m dying! SAVE ME!”

What can we do about it? The next time you feel the need to fight with a brother or sister, focus on the Gospel. When you want to stop attending a church because of minor differences, focus on the Gospel. If you just can’t stand someone, focus on the Gospel. Make the goal the Gospel in everything you do and the problems that seemed so important no longer matter.
